Dr. Karina Acevedo
Licensed clinical psychologist providing online Psychological Evaluations and Therapy for Women (individual and group therapy) in both English and Spanish in Florida
Hi, I’m Dr. Karina Acevedo!
I’m a bilingual licensed clinical psychologist specializing in women’s mental health in Florida. I help women build resilience, restore balance, and learn skills that support emotional well-being, not just for today, but for the long term.
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, ADHD, autism, depression, trauma, or feeling overwhelmed, I’ll help you build resilience and practical tools for everyday life. I also support women coping with chronic illness, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, or ongoing stress.
My goal is to collaborate with you and help guide you toward a healthier, more balanced life where you feel confident, capable, and supported every step of the way.
Therapy isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress, and the courage to take steps, no matter how small, toward lasting growth.
I’m here to walk alongside you
I see therapy as a partnership. You bring your lived experience, your goals, and your readiness for growth. I bring my expertise, my encouragement, and a commitment to tailoring evidence-based strategies that fit your unique needs. Together, we’ll create a plan that feels structured yet flexible, and honors where you are while guiding you toward where you want to be. Whether it’s building confidence, strengthening relationships, learning new ways to cope, or navigating the effects of stress on your health, therapy with me is about creating resilience and celebrating each step forward.
You deserve support, growth, and healing
I integrate strategies that holistically promote women’s mental health. I often guide and support patients regarding:
Anger and emotional regulation — respond with clarity instead of overwhelm
Anxiety and stress management — calm your mind and restore balance
Chronic illness and pain management strategies — reduce distress and improve daily functioning
Depression or low mood — find energy, hope, and motivation again
Lifestyle and wellness support — create habits that nourish your body and mind
Motivation and goal setting — move forward with focus and direction
Relationship challenges — build healthier, more fulfilling connections
Self-esteem and self-compassion — strengthen confidence and inner kindness
Sleep hygiene and healthier routines — wake up rested and recharged
Trauma and PTSD recovery — heal and reclaim your sense of safety
You don’t have to carry this alone. Let’s work together to create meaningful, lasting change.
Sometimes, the best way to truly understand what you’re experiencing is through a structured evaluation. My evaluations are not just about tests or scores — they are about creating a full picture of your strengths and challenges, so together we can chart the most effective path forward.
List of therapies I offer:
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
Solution-focused therapy (SFT)
Mindfulness-based therapy (MBT)
Motivational interviewing (MI)
What is it like to work with me?
Working with me means stepping into a space that is both supportive and structured, and your voice is heard. I believe therapy works best when it’s collaborative: I bring guidance, insight, and accountability, while also honoring your pace, your needs, and the wisdom you already carry.
I value open communication and active listening, creating a foundation of trust where you feel understood and encouraged.
My role is to help you:
Understand your patterns with clarity and compassion
Build healthier habits for daily living
Strengthen resilience in the face of stress and trauma
Improve emotional balance and relationships
Move toward a life that feels more aligned and fulfilling
Together, we’ll not only work toward meaningful change but also develop the skills and confidence that make those changes last.
Women’s mental health is more than managing stress; it’s about reclaiming your peace, confidence, and joy.
With the right support, each of us can make small changes that improve our daily lives.
Therapy is an opportunity to gain clarity and strategies to manage your challenges and confidence in your ability to thrive. I’ll help you build a foundation of resilience and self-trust that will support you for years to come.
Let’s build a healthier, more fulfilling life that you love.
Want to learn more about me?
The person….
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, surrounded by a big, lively family that included ten cousins. My grandmother and mother were both dancers, and I inherited my love of dance from them. My grandmother, a ballet dancer, taught me the values of discipline, follow-through, being a team player, and showing up with grace and dedication. Dance has been a thread throughout my life, shaping the way I connect with others and myself.
Growing up, some of my most cherished memories were long afternoons at the beach with my mom and aunt. We’d talk deeply about life, our emotions, and our history, lessons that rooted me in who I am while also opening me to the world around me. That mix of curiosity and connection has stayed with me. I love going to new places and meeting new people, because every experience grows you in ways you don’t expect.
My path has carried me to many different places — college in Syracuse, earning my doctorate in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and completing my postdoctoral training in Fort Myers, Florida. During my doctorate, I lived through the 2020 earthquakes in Puerto Rico, experiences that have stayed with me, deepened my understanding of trauma and resilience, both personally and professionally.
Through all of these moves and experiences, my dog, Luna, has been my constant companion. She’s lived and traveled with me everywhere. She even has her own frequent flyer miles.
At my core, I’m passionate about growth, connection, and learning from people. Whether it’s through dance, family, my patients, or new cultures and places, I carry those lessons forward in everything I do, always seeking to bring empathy, resilience, and openness to the work and relationships that matter most in my life.
The professional….
My professional journey has been shaped by a commitment to growth, learning, and service. Over the years, I’ve studied and worked in diverse environments that exposed me to many aspects of women’s mental health, perspectives, and approaches to care. These experiences not only expanded my clinical knowledge but also drove home the reality that having a supportive person to talk to can make all the difference.
As I grew in my work, I became especially attuned to how trauma and stress affect women’s mental health and our overall physical health. So many women carry invisible burdens, whether from family responsibilities, professional pressures, or past experiences, that take a toll on their bodies, minds, and spirits.
I’ve seen how supporting women’s mental health creates ripples of change — not only improving individual lives but strengthening families, relationships, and communities.” My goal as a licensed clinical psychologist is to help lessen that stress, to offer a space where women feel seen, heard and supported.
What ultimately led me to this profession was realizing that my greatest fulfillment comes from walking alongside others through their struggles, helping them find relief, strength, and new possibilities.
Today, I bring together years of study, clinical practice, and lived experience to offer care that is both evidence-based and deeply human.
